PS5 Pro owners should play these games to best show off Sony’s latest console

Sony’s latest console is, as we’ve covered, an odd proposition – but it does offer some updates in some of the best games on the system.

It’s not perfect – some PS5 Pro patches are actually making games worse, but when a game does take full advantage of it, it’s very impressive indeed. While over 50 PS5 Pro enabled titles arrived at the console’s launch, there are definitely some that look better than others.

With that in mind, we’ve put together this list of some of the best PS5 Pro enhanced games, from open-world adventures to cinematic classics, superhero action and a role-playing classic.

The best games to show off your PS5 Pro: Horizon Forbidden West

Horizon Forbidden West looks incredible on PS5 Pro

The first Horizon has just got a remaster but for our money, it’s Forbidden West that still stands tallest between the two.

It might be one of the best games I’ve seen, console, PC or otherwise, and even those without a TV or monitor with VRR support will find a lot to like.

Everything, from Aloy and her companions, to the metallic robots she fights, are brimming with detail, and it remains smooth as butter throughout. For a game that also launched on PS4, this is a staggering technical achievement.

Demon’s Souls Remake

Demon’s Souls remains one of the best-looking PS5 games around

Demon’s Souls launched with the PS5, and while we’re still waiting to see what famed Remake studio Bluepoint is up to next, playing it on PS5 is almost like playing a new game.

That’s because the PS5 can run the game at 60 frames per second without sacrificing any of the detail that made it one of the best-looking PS5 games.

Dodging, blocking, and swinging your weapon feel more fluid than ever, and as someone that bounced off after a few hours, I’m now playing through again.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart remains a technical showcase

Once upon a time, gamers dreamt of Pixar-level visual fidelity – and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart might just be the closest we’ll ever get.

Details in the distance are much sharper on PS5 Pro with its PSSR upscaling, but it was always a bit of a technical marvel at launch anyway. Still, now you can enjoy both performance and fidelity modes together, and at times it looks jaw-dropping in motion.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

PS5 Pro is now the best way to play Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

One of the best games of this year, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth always looked a little smudged on the base PS5 if you opted for the smoother frame rate.

Thankfully, that’s no longer the case, and players can now use a ‘Versatility’ mode to get the best of both worlds, with 60fps gameplay and 4K output. It’s transformative, and is now the best way to play this huge RPG.

Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3 is even better on PS5 Pro

Sticking with RPGS, albeit in a different style, Baldur’s Gate 3 was one of the best games of 2023 and it’s only gotten better with the PS5 Pro patch.

The game always ran fairly well given how many interactive elements were in each scene, but it’s now locked at 30fps in Quality mode, but can upscale to 4K at 60fps in Performance Mode.

Perhaps the biggest boon to this is that Baldur’s Gate 3 is now playable in co-op at 60fps, which makes it a much better experience for duos enjoying the adventure.

The Last of Us Part 1 & 2

Both Last of Us games are worth experiencing on PS5 Pro

Sure, you’ve almost certainly already played one or both of Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic epics, but there’s something to be said for playing both back-to-back on PS5.

The first game got a full remake, and now looks staggeringly good whether in combat or roaming the world, while the sequel got a PS5 patch that makes it incredibly fluid.

If you’ve somehow never played either, you owe it to yourself to get acquainted with Joel and Ellie as soon as possible.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Venom has never looked better

A model citizen on every Sony console it’s released on, it’s perhaps not surprising to see the Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise continue its streak on PS5.

Reflection quality is higher, and the lighting on Peter and Miles’ Spidey suits reflects more accurately, too. It’s also incredibly smooth at all times, even when swinging through dense areas packed with civilians and traffic.
