Bauchi Spends N1Billion On Catering Materials, Foodstuffs, N64Million On Erosion, Flood Control Despite Experiencing Deadly Floods

This amount exceeds that amount spent on rehabilitation/repair of water facilities, amounting to N61.9 million.

A review of the Bauchi State budget performance document by SaharaReporters has shown that it spent N1 billion on foodstuffs and catering materials supply between January and September 2024.

This amount exceeds that amount spent on rehabilitation/repair of water facilities, amounting to N61.9 million.

The amount spent on the rehabilitation/repair of hospitals/health centres stood at N123.1 million, while rehabilitation/repair of public schools stood at N368 million. All for these figures are lower than what the government spent on foodstuffs/catering materials supply.

The amount spent on the construction/provision of water facilities stood at N374.1 million, construction/provision of public schools stood at N978.6 million, while construction/provision of agricultural facilities stood at N241.1 million.

The review also shows that while the state spent N1 billion on food stuffs/catering materials supply, it spent only N63.5 million on erosion and flooding control.

This is despite the devastation caused by flooding which led to the death of 15 persons and injuries to 163 others in September.

While the state spent N1 billion on foodstuffs/catering material supply, the capital expenditure expended on a specialist hospital in Bauchi stood at N147 million.

There have been concerns over poor management resources by state governments, especially in the face of inadequate resources.
