Glasgow-based avant pop voice Elisabeth Elektra has shared details of her new album ‘Hypersigil’.
The artist has a passion for exploring femininity in all its guises, from the mythic to the sensual. Chatting to CLASH writer Marianne Gallagher in 2020, Elisabeth Elektra mused on the term ‘femme witch’ in relation to her practise.
I think it’s a good way of describing how in society there’s still so many judgements made if people see you as feminine. It’s seen as a weakness, as if you’re doing it ‘for men’. I struggle with that a lot in my life. I wanted to use that. It felt like the right word.
New album ‘Hypersigil’ continues her journey, and it’s set to be released in early 2025.
Ahead of this, the Glasgow-based artist has shared carnal synth piledriver ‘Desire’ – a queer anthem channelling the alien spirit of Prince or Lady Gaga, it relishes in pop’s role as a space for outsiders.
Elektra shares her inspiration for the song: “I wanted to create a sanctuary where voices often silenced could find their power. ‘Desire’ is a rebellion against societal norms, a celebration of bodies in all their forms. It’s a battle cry for those who’ve been told their desires are wrong, a reminder that your sexuality is yours and yours alone.”
Written by Elisabeth Elektra and co-produced alongside highly acclaimed producer and drummer Jonny Scott (CHVRCHES, The Kills), it’s the first preview of her incoming LP.
Out now, ‘Desire’ comes with a ravishing video shot by Elektra alongside art director and photographer Greta Kalva.
