FanDuel Recorded 16.6 Million Super Bowl Bets

With over 16.6 million Super Bowl bets, FanDuel saw a big increase in activity from last year, with “Kick of Destiny 3” making up a large portion of them.

FanDuel Reveals Super Bowl Bets Statistics

The Super Bowl is always popular among US bettors and according to the largest online sportsbook operator in the US, FanDuel, fans have placed more than 16.6 million bets. This marks a 19.8% year-over-year increase. According to the sportsbook operator, these bets came from almost 3 million accounts with FanDuel receiving more than 70,000 bets per minute at one point.

In addition to betting on the game’s outcome, FanDuel also saw users wager on which of the two Manning brothers, Eli or Peyton, would successfully kick a football through a field goal. The two brothers competed in a live field goal contest during the Super Bowl pregame show, “Kick of Destiny 3” and it was Eli who made the winning kick. Almost two million fans made a pick on the show with just over one million guessing right, meaning both brothers had about the same bets placed on them.

FanDuel users could make a free pick, and those who bet on Eli shared in a $10 million prize pool of Bonus Bets, which amounted to $10 in Bonus Bets on the platform.

Fans expected high-scoring games as most of them, about 83%, picked the Over on the 48.5-point total ahead of kickoff. However, the final score was Eagles 40 – Kansas City Chiefs 22m which means that the most popular exact score bets on FanDuel were not what most bettors predicted. Those were Chiefs 38 – Eagles 35 and Chiefs 27 – Eagles 24.

Here’s a Look At Other Sportsbooks Statistics

The Super Bowl marks the end of a long stretch of customer-friendly NFL outcomes that sportsbooks have had to contend with, and it seems the big game continued that trend. Investors didn’t seem too concerned, as Flutter saw a modest increase earlier, while DraftKings (NASDAQ: DKNG) gained 1.32%. Rush Street Interactive (NYSE: RSI) stood out with a 2.41% rise in above-average volume to kick off the week.

Meanwhile, Flutter’s financials, there was a silver lining in the form of prop bets. On FanDuel, Eagles running back Saquon Barkley was the most popular pick for MVP based on total bets and handle. The player was also the most heavily wagered anytime touchdown scorer, though he failed to achieve either feat.

Speaking of Barkley, he was part of an eight-leg same-game parlay that saw one FanDuel customer turn $10 into a $7,612.63 payout.
