The president of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Margaret Oguntala, has highlighted the importance of global collaboration in advancing engineering practices, particularly in areas of sustainable development and climate change mitigation.
She stated this at the opening of the 2025 Global Engineering Congress and World Federation of Engineering Organisations General Assembly, held at the Shanghai Expo Centre in China.
The event was jointly organised by the World Federation of Engineering Organisations, the China Association for Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government.
The congress, scheduled to be held from October 12 to 17 with the theme ‘Engineering shapes a green future’, would focus on the pivotal role of engineering technologies in addressing climate change, fostering green economic growth, shaping a globally sustainable and human-centred development framework, and enhancing human well-being.
A statement by NSE on Wednesday said that Ms Oguntala highlighted the pivotal roles Nigerian engineers play on the global stage.
The NSE president said that the country’s engineers’ active participation in such a high-profile event underscores Nigeria’s commitment to innovation and engineering excellence.
She stressed the need for engineering professionals worldwide to come together to tackle critical issues like climate change, sustainable development, and the challenges posed by technological advancements.
The event, chaired by the president of WFEO, Mustafa Shehu, brought together top engineers from around the world to engage in discussions on global engineering challenges and solutions.
