I really dont know the history of that one
The origin of cultism was traced to the Seadog confraternity (a.k.a Pyrates), founded by Wole Soyinka and six others at the foremost University of Ibadan in 1952. But this guys were mainly not the type of cult we see this days.
The consequences of cultism include the following: Threat to peace and security in campuses and the larger society when intra-cult clashes occur. Cultists cause death and cause unhappiness to the families affected by their activities. They make those who work diligently not to reap the result of their hard work.
