Slumber Realm Is Surreal and Nostalgic
Solo indie developer Brian Cronin, the founder of Chugga Games, has revealed his newest project, Slumber Realm. This surreal, nostalgia-laced, dice-driven roguelike adventure will make its debut during the upcoming Tiny Teams Steam event. The game’s Steam page is already live, and players can finally wishlist it right now.
In Slumber Realm, players roll a trusty d6 to navigate a dream world infused with 1990s pop culture. Each run is a compact 30-minute experience, offering the chance to create wild synergies through an ever-growing arsenal of unlockable gear. The game encourages experimentation, with new combinations to discover every time the player “wakes up” and starts again.
The adventure offers four distinct playable classes, over 150 equipment cards, and 30 “memories” that can alter battles. Sometimes to the player’s advantage and other times in stranger ways. Players can also collect 60 different snacks, each providing boosts to aid their journey through surreal dreamscapes.
Outside of battles, Slumber Realm lets players decorate their in-game room with a trove of 1990s memorabilia. From retro video games and movie posters to skateboards and other era-defining artifacts, it is a space built to capture the quirky charm of a pre-Y2K bedroom.
With its mix of quick, replayable runs, offbeat customization, and a distinctive retro dreamlike atmosphere, Slumber Realm aims to deliver both strategy and personality in equal measure. Fans of inventive roguelikes will be able to explore the dream world for themselves when it appears in the Tiny Teams Steam event this August.
