Enter a Post-Apocalyptic Water World in Waterpunk: Through the Rust
R_Games has revealed that its upcoming title, Waterpunk: Through the Rust, is on track for a launch in the first half of 2026. The game is already available to wishlist on Steam, and the official trailer offers an early look at the tense and atmospheric world the studio is building.
Waterpunk: Through the Rust is a roguelite action-adventure that takes place in a post-apocalyptic water world. Here, the remains of humanity survive in underwater shelters. Players step into the role of a volunteer sent to the surface to gather essential resources. Each expedition takes you through rusted platforms and abandoned structures while hostile machines roam above, ready to strike. Every run gives you the chance to expand your abilities, gather valuable loot, and strengthen your skills.
Combat focuses on intensity and precision. Enemies hit hard and demand quick reactions as you move through shifting environments. A living day and night cycle shapes your strategy since certain abilities activate during daylight while others reveal their true power after dark. Time moves forward on its own, so every choice matters.
The game features a large selection of weapons and gadgets that you can mix in countless combinations. Procedural generation ensures that levels, enemies, and rewards feel fresh each time you venture to the surface. Even failure plays a role in progression. Returning to your base allows you to invest in long-term upgrades that gradually improve your chances during future attempts.
At the heart of the experience is a world reshaped by a war against unfeeling machines. With cities submerged and humanity pushed to the depths, each mission becomes part of a larger fight to reclaim what was lost and keep hope alive.
