In a transformative moment for the automotive industry, the creative genius responsible for a range of innovative electric BMW models is making a bold leap to Xiaomi in China. There, he will apply his visionary talents to envision and design cutting-edge electric vehicles that promise to reshape the future of driving.

You can say a lot about the BMW i3 and i8, but not that they were boringly designed. The new generation of electric BMWs, based on the Vision Neue Klasse design language, also looks quite special. They have one thing in common: Kai Langer. This designer has been working for BMW for over twenty years, but no longer.

Langer is moving to Chinese company Xiaomi, a tech giant that has, so far, successfully dabbled in the automotive industry. Xiaomi has ambitious plans to sell its electric cars worldwide, and Langer is expected to make a significant contribution. The designer announced his move on his LinkedIn profile.

Xiaomi has so far unveiled two all-electric models: the Porsche Taycan-like Xiaomi SU7 and its SUV sibling, the YU7. The brand offered a significant amount of shares for sale earlier this year to raise money to expand its model lineup.
