More about the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is a long-term project that plans to transform stations in phases across India. The scheme targets various aspects of station development, including improved access, better waiting halls, upgraded toilets, and the installation of lifts and escalators. Additionally, passengers will benefit from enhanced services such as free Wi-Fi, kiosks promoting local products under the “One Station One Product” scheme, advanced passenger information systems, executive lounges, and business meeting spaces.

A prime feature of the scheme is its emphasis on sustainability, with plans for better landscaping and the integration of stations with both sides of the city. The development also focuses on ensuring facilities for Divyangjans (differently-abled individuals) and implementing environment-friendly measures. The introduction of advanced infrastructure features like ballastless tracks further strengthens the project’s forward-thinking approach. Over time, these stations are expected to become key urban hubs, contributing significantly to city planning and development.

Over a thousand stations chosen

So far, 1,337 stations have been identified for redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, with 157 of them located in Uttar Pradesh.

For the financial year 2024-25, the state has been allocated ₹5,930 crores, which will be distributed across five railway zones: Northern Railway, North Central Railway, North Eastern Railway, East Central Railway, and West Central Railway. These funds will cover upgrades, maintenance, and infrastructure development projects aimed at improving passenger facilities and overall station experience.

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme marks a major step forward in transforming India’s railway stations into modern, efficient, and inclusive transportation hubs, boosting the comfort of millions of passengers.
