The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 20-year-old man, Aliyu Umar, over his alleged involvement in an armed robbery and murder that occurred on Monday, May 5, 2025, in Danbare Quarters, Kano.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the police received a distress call around 6:40 a.m. from a resident who reported that two armed robbers had broken into the residence of 30-year-old Shehu Muhammad. The attackers reportedly used a sharp cutlass to inflict multiple injuries on the victim.
Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, deployed a team of operatives and detectives to the crime scene. The victim was immediately rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
One of the suspects, Aliyu Umar, was arrested at the scene, and the cutlass believed to have been used in the attack was recovered by the police. The suspect is currently in custody and assisting investigators with useful information as efforts are ongoing to apprehend the second suspect still at large.
In the statement, CP Bakori assured the public that the command will continue to intensify efforts to rid Kano State of criminal elements. “We will not rest until every criminal element is brought to justice,” he stated.

The police also commended residents for their quick action and cooperation. “The community’s timely report was critical in the arrest of the suspect. We urge everyone to remain vigilant and continue to support the police in maintaining peace and security,” SP Kiyawa added.
Upon conclusion of investigations, the suspect will be charged to court to face the full weight of the law.
