The best winter wedding guest dresses are a glamorous affair: dreamy sequins, a variety of long-sleeve styles, and a little sparkle. To help you find the best dress options, we spoke with wedding experts for tips and recommendations.

As we saw with fall wedding guest dress trends, slip dresses and sequined styles catch the eye for winter weddings, says Sky Pollard, head of product at clothing-rental company Nuuly. Both options can easily be dressed up or down depending on the venue, month, and of course, the dress code. Emily Forrest, wedding and registry expert and director of communications at wedding website Zola recommends branching out in terms of textures and styles with lace and velvet. While Madeleine Bokan Thares, a wedding planner and author of the email newsletter Upstate I Do, recommends maxi-length dresses so you can easily hide your boots when venturing outdoors for any photos. (And it goes without saying that you should never, ever wear white or cream unless the couple has specifically asked you to.)

“Slate blue is a stunning color that transcends wedding seasons and finds popularity amongst both bridal parties and wedding guests,” says Thares. “This dress is a perfect style for winter and early spring weddings, thanks to the cozy knit fabric, long full, pleated skirt, and off-the-shoulder neckline.”

The Drop Scarlett Cowl-Neck Slip Dress

Slip dresses are a forever favorite for their simplicity. Take this cowl-neck one: It’s a slip-on style that’s available in classic black, ocean blue, hot pink, and blue ombré. Not only is it under $60, but it fits right in at any winter wedding venue, ballrooms, barns, and backyards included.

If you’re in the market for a timeless formal dress, this one-shoulder midi is it. Made from a midweight crepe fabric that’s designed to keep you comfortable, this figure-hugging style comes in a slew of colors, including electric blue, garnet, midnight, and orchid.

6/35

Elliatt Cassini One-Shoulder Dress

Silky, slinky, and super stylish, this one-shoulder dress was described by one reviewer as “the most beautiful dress I have ever worn.” The satin style features slight ruching throughout, along with a high slit (perfect for dance floors, if you ask us). Shop it in navy, forest, sapphire, or black before your next winter wedding rolls around.

7/35

Reformation Stasia Silk Dress Es

“This silk charmeuse dress in deep pine is one of my top picks for the 2025 wedding season,” says Thares. “The V-neckline, fitted bodice and lace details make a fresh twist on this classic silhouette. Pair it with a faux-fur shrug and suede kitten mules for an elegant guest look.”

8/35

Pretty Garden Flowy Maxi Tank Dress

Slinky satin and a subtle side slit make this flowy maxi a year-round essential. Available in 19 colors—including winter-appropriate wine red, dark blue, and classic black—it’s the dress to reach for when you’re stumped on what to wear. Not only is the dress breathable and lightweight, but one reviewer loved the style so much, they went back and ordered it in more colors.

9/35

Ever New Kendra Metallic Jersey Midi Dress

If you’re the one who never leaves the dance floor at weddings, get ready to sparkle in this metallic midi-dress. Its stretchy jersey knit gives you full freedom to show off all your moves. The square neck adds sophistication to the simple silhouette, and did we mention the straps are adjustable?!

10/35

Anrabess Evening Maxi Dress

This long-sleeve maxidress is gorgeous for cooler months, and it comes in more than 20 stylish shades. Details like a pleated high-waist, side slit, and deep-V neckline make it so easy to accessorize too. Wear it with everything from black ankle booties to strappy sandals, and don’t be surprised when other wedding guests ask you, “Wait, where did you get that?”

11/35

Madewell Satin Maxi Slip Dress

“Brown is absolutely the color for wedding guest dresses this winter,” says Thares. “The subtle A-line silhouette and front slit make this otherwise simple dress read as effortlessly chic. Pair this dress with a faux-fur shrug and suede burgundy heels for a perfect winter wedding guest look.”

12/35

Melloday Metallic Pleated Cami Slipdress

IMO, you can never go wrong with a flowy trapeze dress. This metallic pleated fabric brings the glitz and glam to a semiformal winter wedding guest look. And it pairs perfectly with a faux-fur stole or cropped leather jacket.

13/35

Norma Kamali Diana Gown

This is, hands down, a classic wedding guest dress choice. Because the style is available in all of our fave jewel tones, it’s hard to pick just one, but any of them will look lovely. The one-shoulder ruched style is a statement, yet somehow the dress is still a blank slate for creating your own unique look. A cashmere wrap or velvet blazer adds a layer of warmth, and a statement pair of heels or booties draws attention to the fun asymmetric hem.

14/35

Dress the Population Trumpet Gown

A plunge, full-length gown brings the drama, and we love this curve-hugging dress for its sweeping skirt and prominent slit. Available in seven colors, the dress was described as “absolutely stunning” by one reviewer. Another noted that the fabric feels high-quality, and it’s decently thick, helping you to keep warm no matter the weather.

15/35

Boden High Neck Velvet Dress

You had me at cabernet velvet! This elegant dress with subtle puff sleeves is ideal for a cocktail-attire wedding, but you can also dress it up for a semiformal event by adding an embellished belt and metallic platform heels. Plus, it has hidden side-seam pockets, which are always a welcome surprise!

16/35

Buxom Couture Long Sleeve Minidress

Green is a no-fail color for winter fêtes of all kinds, whether it’s a formal ceremony or a more casual celebration. This tiered kelly green minidress is equal parts polished and playful—pair it with simple gold jewelry and black heels for a look that will take you from the ceremony all the way to the wee hours of the after-party.

17/35

BerryGo Velvet Wrap Mini Dress

If you need a wedding guest outfit ASAP, this one from Amazon will be on your doorstep in no time. This beautiful emerald green velvet wrap dress is elegant and cozy enough for this chilly time of year.

18/35

Adrianna Papell Mesh Midi Dress

This is your sign to wear a fancy nap dress to the next wedding on your cal. The midi length of this piece adds a bit of formality to what is typically seen as a more relaxed style. Dress it up with nude heels or metallic platforms, and accessorize with your favorite sparkly jewelry. And yes, it has pockets!

19/35

BHLDN Crepe Maxi Dress

What’s strapless, stretchy, and seriously chic? This maxidress, of course. Made from a heavyweight crepe that will keep you warm in cooler temps, it’s the sort of column gown that will never go out of style. Shop it in black, cobalt, or pink, and pair it with glam hoops to up the overall elegance.

20/35

BTFBM Cocktail Mockneck Maxi Dress

We love this mock-neck Amazon find for its price point (under $60), its color options (18 in total), and its ability to make you look polished in seconds. The silky satin fabric is both comfortable and chic, and the ankle-length design will keep you warm as temps start to drop.

21/35

Pretty Garden Pleated Flowy Dress

Ideal for semiformal winter weddings, this long-sleeve dress looks extra sweet thanks to Swiss-dot fabric and a smocked waist. We love the classic black, but other winter-ready colors are available to shop for under $60, including an army green that you can pull off at the office too.

22/35

Ever-Pretty Midi Dress

Yet another asymmetrical dress that’s perfect for ceremonies and receptions, this knee-length look is nonfussy and easy to style—just throw it on with a single dainty necklace and you’re party-ready. Select from black, burnt orange, navy blue, or dark green, and slip this on the next time a dress code leaves you stumped on what to wear.

23/35

BTFBM Pleated Flowy Midi Dress

Short sleeves immediately evoke ideas of summer celebrations, but we’d argue that the flowy pleats on this calf-length dress make it perfect for winter parties. The satin fabric feels supersoft to the touch, and an adjustable tie waist helps you to customize it to fit your unique shape. It’s available in 15 colors, too, just in case you want to stock up on multiple shades.

24/35

Happy Sailed Velvet Dress

A deep purple dress is an unexpected yet perfect palette for a winter wedding guest look. The belted waist makes the dress incredibly flattering, and the thick velvet will keep you warm at a mountainside reception or a brief outdoor ceremony. This is totally on our wishlist.

25/35

Reformation Catana Dress

This rose-patterned maxi is a modern twist on the timeless LBD (long black dress). The fitted bodice gives the dress an elegant shape, contrasting with the flowy, relaxed skirt. Plus it’s fully lined, so there is no need to add a slip for fear of it being a little too sheer. Keep warm by wearing your black leather jacket over the top, and dress it up with stilettos or down with your favorite black boots.

26/35

Madewell Bubble-Hem Midi Dress

This black bubble-hem midi-dress is the ultimate pick for a cozy and comfy wedding guest look. This timeless yet simple style can easily go between various attire thresholds, from casual to black tie, depending on how it is accessorized. The long sleeves will keep you warm, and you can even hide fleecy leggings underneath, if the event is really in the tundra.

27/35

Reformation Frankie Silk Dress

Show us a dress more chic than this best-selling Reformation style. The Frankie silk dress is popular for good reason: The fitted column silhouette flatters curves, while the square neckline and back slit increase the sophistication factor. Buy it once, and wear it over and over, no matter the season.

28/35

AFRM Moni Maxi Dress

Mesh is absolutely having a moment, so it was only a matter of time before we suggested it for a wedding guest look. We love this floral print dress with its deep scoop neckline and bodycon silhouette that perfectly pairs with black strappy heels and a leather clutch.

29/35

Pretty Garden Floral Midi Dress

This subtly patterned black midi-dress is a comfortable choice for a cold-weather wedding celebration. The smocked bodice adds a feminine touch with an elegant flowy skirt. This more boho style would pair perfectly with cowboy boots and a leather jacket for a farm-side or more rural event setting.

30/35

Donna Morgan Midi Dress

This is a classic, sophisticated dress choice for a winter wedding with a cocktail-attire dress code. The black, silky sheath can easily stand on its own with minimal accessorizing or can be dressed up with some sparkly jewelry. The millennial in me still loves a statement necklace or headband, and this could be the perfect opportunity to break one (or both!) out of storage.

31/35

Likely Bowie Dress

“Dress to impress with this dramatic taffeta drop-waist gown that’s the perfect choice for a winter black-tie wedding,” says Glamour contributor and wedding industry insider Madeleine Bokan Thares. “Glam it up with Old Hollywood waves or a ballerina bun, a red lip, and sparkly earrings for the ultimate ensemble. Now we just need to get Likely to make this in white as a wedding dress for brides!”

32/35

Dress the Population Haley Midi Dress

Another classic wedding guest dress is now available in a new metallic fuchsia shade. This fit-and-flare silhouette is flattering for many body types, and its full pleated skirt was made to spin and sparkle on the dance floor. Pair it with velvet heels for a fancy, festive look.

33/35

Likely Marullo Dress

The allure of this simple crewneck minidress is all in the details. Feathers and a beaded jewel bow?! That’s a combo for an instant add to cart. It’s a fashion-forward cocktail dress made for a city rooftop wedding celebration, but definitely add tights to your look if you’re in a colder winter climate.

34/35

Tuckernuck Samantha Dress

A jacquard minidress is a cold-weather staple, as long as it’s paired with cute tights, of course! The design’s attention to detail with three-quarter-length blouson sleeves, covered fabric buttons, and a band collar make this an instantly luxe purchase. You’ll be wearing this festive frock to weddings and holiday parties for years to come.

35/35

Tadashi Shoji Lace Pintuck Cocktail Dress

If you’re looking for a unique dress for a formal wedding, this one’s for you. This glamorous dress is sure to turn heads with a scalloped, plunging V-neck, fitted waist, and bloused chiffon sleeves. We love it in black, but it’s available in a slate blue and deep teal too.
