If Cole Caufield, who is undoubtedly having the best season of his career, continues his goal-scoring pace, he will finish the season with 41 goals.
He would thus become the first 40-goal scorer for the Canadiens since Max Pacioretty Vincent Damphousse in 1993-1994. This has been a long time.
If the panel of experts at TVA Sports is optimistic about Caufield reaching 40 goals, Renaud Lavoie sees even bigger things. He believes Caufield will reach the 45-goal plateau.

Maxim Lapierre and Antoine Roussel are a little less optimistic, however. They think that Caufield will score 38 and 39 goals, respectively. They could have rounded to 40…
To reach the 40-goal mark, Caufield will have to score a goal every 2.2 games or so. But for 45 goals, that’s a goal every 1.5 games. Quite a difference.
Lavoie even added that if the winger reaches this difficult-to-reach mark, the Canadiens will be in the playoffs as a wild-card team. In fact, the entire panel of experts (Lapierre, Roussel, Félix Séguin, Patrick Lalime, and Lavoie) is certain to see the Tricolore in the playoffs.
Renaud, the two game describers, and Roussel see Montreal and Ottawa in the playoffs, and Lapierre sees the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge and the Columbus Blue Jackets
Currently, the team is only two small points away from the Blue Jackets (68) and the last wild-card spot. Obviously, this is not an insurmountable hill, but it’s worth remembering that the competition is fierce.
The Senators, who won this afternoon (69), the Rangers (68), the Red Wings (66), and the Bruins — who also won — (66) are also in the mix. Among these teams, Boston and Ottawa have an easier schedule than the Canadiens from now until the end of the season. But obviously, this statistic can change very quickly.
