Weaver Talks Her “Mandalorian & Grogu” Role

Apple TV+
Nearly a year ago came the news that three-time Oscar nominee Sigourney Weaver was joining the cast of “The Mandalorian & Grogu” movie at Lucasfilm and Disney.

Series creator Jon Favreau is directing and producing the film alongside Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and CCO Dave Filoni. Weaver’s role hasn’t been officially revealed but last month a report indicated she would play a New Republic Colonel.

It marks Weaver’s first time in the “Star Wars” franchise, having worked on various others over the years including “Alien,” “Avatar” and “Daredevil”. She tells GamesRadar+ (via SFFGazette.com) that she had never really considered being part of “Star Wars” until baby Yoda himself Grogu helped get her onboard:

“I get to have scenes with a little Grogu which is probably why I did the movie. And he’s a little badass too. It’s going to be wonderful for people to see what Grogu is up to now because he’s grown up a little bit and is capable of much more than maybe we think just watching the series.

I play a wonderful character who is, you know, in a position of authority, and I have to send the Mandalorian out on a mission on the Outer Rim where all the bad stuff happens.

I admire [Star Wars], but I don’t sit around wishing I was in another franchise, because I’ve been so lucky to be in some wonderful ones. But at the time, when I was offered it, I was delighted. I’m a great fan of Jon Favreau. I was already a great fan of The Mandalorian.”

Pedro Pascal and Jeremy Allen White co-star in “The Mandalorian & Grogu” which is set to hit cinemas on May 22nd 2026.
