Marvel Exec On “Armor Wars,” “Captain America” Future

Marvel Studios’ “Armor Wars,” starring Don Cheadle in the lead as James Rhodes, remains a project with an uncertain fate.

Initially announced as a series, Marvel producer Nate Moore then revealed it would be refashioned into a movie. Then it came close to shooting, but fell apart again. The failure of the “Secret Invasion” series also appears to have had a detrimental impact.

At this point it’s not clear when or even if the project will get going, and new comments this week from Moore suggests the project remains very much stuck in limbo. Speaking with Collider, he suggests the film has been pushed to the back and likely won’t be revisited anytime soon:

“You know, that’s not my project, to be honest. But, I do know, as Marvel [Studios] continues to go through this phase, we want to make sure whatever we’re making is awesome. So that means we had to slow down some things that were on the front burner. It doesn’t mean we’ll never make it, but it does mean we just have to be a little bit more considered so that every time out, audiences are guaranteed quality.”

The comments from Moore came as he was out promoting “Captain America: Brave New World”, a film which has had come controversy over the inclusion of the character of Mossad agent Ruth Bat-Seraph/Sabra played by Shira Haas.

Speaking with The National News, Moore says they’ve changed up her back story so while the character is Israeli, she doesn’t work for the Mossad – instead she’s a former Black Widow who now works in the U.S. government and has no mutant powers.

The film’s leading man, Anthony Mackie, adds that he hopes his Sam Wilson character’s first big-screen solo outing will be the kickoff of a decade for him as Captain America.

Speaking with Screen Rant, the currently 46-year-old Mackie says the clock begins with next week’s film release: “Ten years start on the 14th. That’s it. After the 14th I got a 10-year run. I’m not trying to be a 60-year-old Captain America. That’ll hurt.”

Whether his Captain America will survive the events of the next two “Avengers” films remains to be seen.
