Wolfe, Minetree Up For “Legally Blonde” Prequel

Madison Wolfe (“Mayfair Witches,” “True Detective”) and Lexi Minetree (“The Murdaugh Murders,” “Law & Order: SVU”) are said to be the finalists to play a young Elle Woods in the planned “Legally Blonde” TV series at Amazon MGM Studios reports Deadline.

Reese Witherspoon, who starred in the role in two films, is producing the series through her Hello Sunshine label. A few weeks ago she indicated casting on the series was underway and it looks like it has been working out.

The trade says according to inside sources, no decision has been made yet but one is expected soon. Dozens of young actresses were considered for the role with Wolfe and Minetree making it into the final round.

In the original films, Witherspoon’s Elle Woods was a sorority girl who heads to Harvard to win back her ex-boyfriend. She ends up studying to become a lawyer and discovers her newfound independence.

The first film led to a $141 million box-office gross on an $18 million budget, and spawned both a sequel and Broadway musical. The new film kicks off production in March.

Created by Laura Kittrell who will serve as showrunner, the prequel series follows Elle in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love.

Kittrell, Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Lauren Kisilevsky and Marc Platt executive produce.
