When Seth Rogen wrote and starred in Pineapple Express, he wasn’t just walking the walk of a professional stoner. The comedian—and co-owner of a premium weed-accessories company called Houseplant—considers himself “a very good joint roller, and a confident and fast joint roller.” So he showed us how it’s done.
In Esquire’s latest episode of “Explain This,” the actor breaks down the proper technique for rolling the perfect joint. Key steps early on include even distribution and not grinding down the herb too finely. “Once you put the weed in the bottom of the paper and you’re rolling it over, that’s where a lot of people come into trouble,” Rogen explains. “People are walking around with little sticks and Allen wrenches to pack it in, and if you’ve done it properly, you don’t need that.” Watch the video above for Rogen’s trade secrets.
Rogen is also featured in Esquire’s latest cover story. He’s currently preparing for the release of his new Apple TV+ series, The Studio. After writing and starring in a handful of popular films such as Superbad, Knocked Up, This Is the End, and Funny People, the comedian plans to take his experiences on set to a comedy series about running a fictional film studio. The new series, which premieres March 26, features Catherine O’Hara, Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, Chase Sui Wonders, Bryan Cranston, and many more A-list guest stars.
Naturally, Rogen thanks weed for the creative energy needed to direct, write, and star in your own projects. “Weed is something that’s been very therapeutic to me and made my day-to-day journey much easier and better,” he says. “It’s had an additive aspect to my life, and it’s allowed me to do all this stuff, which I really like as well.”
