The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has ordered for the closure of a ‘death trap’ bridge in the Ashanti Region that recently went viral on social media.
A viral video from last week showed the Atwima Mponua Bridge which traverses the Offin River. Residents of the area complained about the sorry state of the bridge, which was in a bad shape and almost impassable at one choke point due to massive holes.
Cars using the bridge had to use one very narrow undamaged side of the bridge and even that involved passing over some very loose wood covering the holes.
In the viral video, residents called on the government to come and fix the bridge before tragedy strikes.
The information appears to have reached the government, who made moves to see to the bridge being shut down.
Netizens praised the government for being responsive to challenges, unlike a certain previous government.
“Humans are leading now. Kasongo is watching Ghana Tv with fake account . God Bless JDM,” one user said.
Another said: “Aban papa aba ampa,”
