British tabloid The Daily Mail reports that an internal memo was circulated at Amazon Studios recently which ties to the Bond series’ future.
Amazon is now famously in full creative control of the franchise, buying out of producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson a few weeks ago.
The trade says the memo was essentially “stipulating the spy will not change gender or nationality” – meaning Bond can not be gender-switched and he must British or from the Commonwealth.
Speculation has been rife about what Amazon will do with the franchise now. THR reports one idea Amazon floated a while back was for a Miss Moneypenny series – something which Broccoli and Wilson rejected at the time.
With the pair now out, old ideas are coming back around again with The Insneider indicating that filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron may direct the project if “Harry Potter” producing czar David Heyman is appointed to the series.
In addition, previously linked filmmaker Edward Berger says he’s still interested in doing a Bond film but tells Yahoo that:
“Barbara Broccoli is no longer doing it and she is at the heart of this project, so I think it’s something different. I don’t know. Things have changed. We will certainly miss her very much.
Amazon MGM Studios has officially yet to announce any plans for James Bond’s future.
