“Mickey 17” Hits Digital After Just 18 Days

Warner Bros. Pictures
Warner Bros. Pictures is reportedly expected to release Bong Joon Ho’s sci-fi comedy “Mickey 17” as a PVOD digital release on March 25th, just 18 days after it hit cinemas on March 7th.

The Robert Pattinson-led film, which world premiered at this year’s Berlin International Film Festival, has dropped to second place in its current second weekend.

That domestic box-office haul is expected to drop around 60% from its debut to a three-day take of $7.6 million. That’s not good, but it is in the midst of the lowest grossing weekend at the domestic box office year-to-date (despite a number of new releases).

Costing $118 million to produce and $80 million to market, the film had pulled in just $62 million by the end of its first week of global release. A recent piece on Warner Bros. Pictures woes suggest the film is likely to lose around $100 million for the studio.

Robert Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo star in the sci-fi/dark comedy film about unlikely hero Mickey Barnes (Pattinson) who finds himself in the extraordinary circumstance of working for an employer who demands the ultimate commitment to the job… to die, for a living.

The film has scored lightly positive reviews with a 78% (7.1/10) on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences were a bit less satisfied with a ‘B’ CinemaScore.
