Shenzhen is taking its international friendliness to the next level.
The city’s iconic ‘Little Yellow Cap’ taxis have started rolling out MossTalk, an AI-powered translation device, offering visitors a seamless way to communicate with drivers without the need to mime, type into translation apps, or rely on mobile signals.
The new service is also being deployed on sightseeing buses, park shuttles, transport hubs, ticket counters, and at Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport, creating a citywide multilingual safety net.
The palm-sized MossTalk device can handle real-time translation in 140+ languages, both online and offline.
Whether you’re hopping into a cab with no roaming signal or moving through a noisy street, the AI engine translates passenger and driver dialogue instantly.
Its functions include:
AI voice activation so drivers can stay hands-free while driving
Smart noise reduction and broadcast interruption for clear conversations in traffic
Instant translation and route explanation for destinations and tourist tips
With a scale that now covers major tourist spots, border terminals, and intercity routes, the city aims to make international travel easier and more welcoming.
The launch comes as Shenzhen’s inbound tourism surges, with over 8 million international entries in Q1 2025, a 17.3% year-on-year increase.
Turning short visits into more extended stays means making the city easy to navigate, wherein breaking the language barrier is key.
With MossTalk now riding shotgun, Shenzhen is setting a new standard for AI-powered urban hospitality, turning every taxi, bus, and tourist hub into a welcoming point of contact for global travelers.
