Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, the 2023 Labour Party vice-presidential candidate and running mate to Peter Obi, has dismissed the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC) as nothing more than a political scam. He alleged that many individuals who wrecked Nigeria under former President Muhammadu Buhari are now regrouping under the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a Friday night interview, Baba-Ahmed argued that Nigeria’s deepest crises stem from a broken leadership recruitment process that continually produces corrupt and self-serving leaders. He traced insecurity, corruption, and the collapse of institutions directly to fraudulent elections, insisting that electoral malpractice is the breeding ground for the country’s misfortunes.
Reflecting on Buhari’s administration, Baba-Ahmed said Nigerians were gravely disappointed after placing high hopes in him, describing his regime as one of the most corrupt in the nation’s history. He recalled that Buhari’s role as Chairman of the Petroleum Trust Fund under the late dictator Sani Abacha betrayed earlier expectations of integrity, noting that Nigeria is still recovering looted funds from that era.
He accused Buhari’s political network of being driven entirely by campaign contributions and personal enrichment, likening them to wolves once they gained power. According to him, from 2003 through 2015, Buhari’s inner circle revolved around money and patronage rather than service to the people.
On the recent defection of some former Buhari loyalists to the ADC, Baba-Ahmed dismissed the move as another trick on Nigerians. He insisted that those who governed between 2015 and 2023 have no credibility to present themselves as reformers under a new platform.
Reaffirming his political stance, Baba-Ahmed declared unwavering loyalty to the Labour Party and Peter Obi, urging Obi to contest again in 2027.
