The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, said on Thursday that former President Goodluck Jonathan and ex-Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, are under consideration as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2027 election.
The governor spoke on Channels Television’s programme, Politics Today.
He recalled that the former President was blackmailed before he contested the 2015 presidential election, but was later cleared by the court.
Mohammed also described Jonathan as the most celebrated politician in the country today.
The governor argued that Obi would be allowed to vie for the presidential ticket if he returned to the PDP.
He said the PDP was interested in politicians with electoral value ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Former President Jonathan has been under pressure from some groups and individuals, particularly in the North, to take another shot at the country’s highest political office, 10 years after he lost in his re-election bid to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
On his part, Obi was the Labour Party candidate in the 2023 presidential election and finished third in the poll.

He is a key member of the opposition coalition that adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the platform to wrest power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
“But certainly, (former) President Jonathan is one of the candidates we are thinking of, if he joins us and opens his mind to run. And even other people like (former) governor Obi, because if he decides to come to a better platform where there are no encumbrances, he will be given the opportunity too.
“For Obi, he’s my brother, my friend. Have you not seen him with me?
“And of course, he’s one of the most celebrated politicians, too. And of course, you see him within the coalition or no coalition, definitely we are not sleeping, only that we don’t make a noise.
“There are so many politicians. I even had a session with Governor Amaechi. I have not been sleeping. I have to make sure I create a closing-of-rank drive, you know, you know, for people to come and help.”
