Ray-Ban Meta ‘Gen 2’ smart glasses deliver 2x battery, 3K video, $379

Meta is launching a sequel to its Ray-Ban smart glasses – the ones without a display – to double battery life as well as improve video resolution with 3K video output, but with a higher price tag.

Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses have been a hit, and now they’re getting an upgrade to improve some of the sore points. In particular, they’re getting a big battery life upgrade.

Where the original Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses only last about 4 or so hours on a charge, Meta says the “Gen 2” model can last up to 8 hours on a charge. The charging case is also a tiny bit faster now, with a 50% charge in 20 minutes, but also holds a lot more charge with up to 48 hours in the case, up from 32 hours.

The camera is also getting a big upgrade on Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2.

For video, you can now capture at 3K resolution for up to 3 minutes. Recording supports 3K at 30fps, 1440p at 30fps, and 1200p at 60fps, but it still records in a vertical orientation.

New features coming to Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 include “conversation focus,” which amplifies the voice of the person talking to you through the speakers on the glasses. The camera will also be able to capture hyperlapse and slow-motion videos later this year.

Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 is available now in Wayfarer, Skyler, and Headliner frame options in a number of different colors. Gen 1 remains on sale from $299.

Beyond new Ray-Ban models, Meta is also expanding on its Oakley partnership with a new pair of “Vanguard” glasses with Oakley’s PRIZM lenses. These glasses get IP67 dust/water resistance, a 122-degree wide angle lens, louder speakers, Garmin integration, and up to 9 hours of battery life.

These will start at $499, and they’re available for pre-order today with shipping in October.
