You can now also pre-order the handheld gaming PCs ahead of their October 16 launch
Asus and Microsoft have finally revealed pricing for the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X ahead of their global October 16 launch.
As part of Xbox’s big presence at the Tokyo Game Show, the companies have confirmed that the ROG Xbox Ally will cost $799, while the ROG Xbox Ally X will be priced at $1299. For context, the standard white ROG Ally costs around $650, depending on the model, while the black ROG Ally X is priced at $1,099. In other words, you’re paying about $150 to $200 for slightly upgraded specs with the extra Xbox bells and whistles.
In particular, the new devices are based on the ROG Ally hardware with dedicated Xbox buttons. On top of that, the Xbox ecosystem has been baked into the system, giving it the brand’s signature UI and gaming library. With respect to the latter, the 1,000-plus “Xbox Play Anywhere” titles (those that you buy and include versions for both Xbox consoles and PC) will be natively supported. Further, you can stream the entire Xbox Cloud Gaming catalogue, as well as download and natively play games from storefronts like Steam, Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Store.
In terms of specs, the ROG Xbox Ally is powered by an AMD Ryzen Z2 A Processor, while the ROG Xbox Ally X sports the new AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme Processor for improved performance. Both handhelds offer 1TB storage capacity.
Asus says ROG Xbox Ally X offers up to 30 per cent increased performance in titles like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Doom: The Dark Ages compared to the previous-gen ROG Ally X. The ROG Xbox Ally, on the other hand, has up to 20 per cent better performance than the ROG Ally in Forza Horizon 5 and Gears of War: Reloaded. Both handhelds offer increased battery life over their predecessors, though battery can fluctuate based on the games people play.
The ROG Xbox Ally is now available for pre-orders at Amazon, the Asus Store, Best Buy, Canada Computers, EB Games, London Drugs, Memory Express, Staples, and Walmart, with Costco, MDG, the Microsoft Store, Newegg and Visions to come closer to launch.
Meanwhile, the ROG Xbox Ally X is can now be pre-ordered from Asus Store and Best Buy, with the Microsoft Store also carrying it closer to launch.
For those who pre-order directly from Asus, the company is offering a free ROG OMNI figurine ($54.99) to the first 150 Canadians who pre-order the Ally X.
