Rebekah Gilbert Releases Wonderful New EP ‘Secret Keeper’

Nashville-based singer-songwriter Rebekah Gilbert unveils her latest EP, Secret Keeper, a collection of songs about healing, abuse, addiction, and parting ways with anything harmful to you.

Gilbert explains, “This EP is a reflection of the places I’ve been, both physically and emotionally, and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. I wanted to capture what it feels like to face your ghosts and still believe in grace and the possibility of healing.”

Produced by Nicole Witt, who also sang backing vocals and played violin, the EP was recorded at Sun Drop Sound Studio in Florence, Alabama, and features the talents of Sol Philcox-Littlefield (guitars, banjo), Jimbo Hart (bass), Grayson Wright (keyboards), Jon Davis (drums), and Justin Holder (drums).

Originally from Maylene, Alabama, and now living in Nashville, Gilbert’s sound blends elements of folk, pop, and country into music described as “hauntingly honest Americana.”

Of the seven tracks on Secret Keeper, suggested entry points include the twangy moonshine textures of “Somebody Else’s House,” with its portentous colors and cautionary lyrics. Gilbert’s evocative voice imbues the lyrics with risky timbres.

A delicious country drawler of a song, “Sober” features luminous guitars and a delightful swaying rhythm that provides a floating, gliding motion as Gilbert’s gentle, creamy vocals give the lyrics lush savors. For some reason, this song summons up memories of Johnny Rivers with its bluesy folk flavors.

The shimmering layers of ebbing and rising resonance make “Coosa River” a personal favorite. Gilbert’s voice, silky-smooth and tinted with dreamy tones, lures listeners in and holds them under her spell.

The final track, “Stay,” narrates the wonder of self-liberation and finding emotional, mental, and spiritual freedom. The sweep of passionate strings blends with the roll of the piano and crying guitars to form a poignant song highlighted by Gilbert’s haunting vocals.

Beautiful production, along with well-written songs and the singular voice of Rebekah Gilbert, elevate Secret Keeper to terrific.
