Scorsese: “I Have No Intention Of Retiring”

Apple Studios
He may be 81 years old, but legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese seems to be following the path of Ridley Scott and Paul Schrader – he’s going to keep filmmaking until he’s dead or no longer physically able.

The famed director, who most recently helmed “Killers of the Flower Moon,” appeared at a press conference at the Cinema Museum in Torino, Italy to accept the Premio Della Mole Award (essentially a career achievement award) this week.

During his discussion with media, he said quite clearly he’s going to keep working and any recent talk of delays due to ill health is incorrect:

“I have no intention of retiring. The film about Frank Sinatra is only postponed while the one about Jesus I am working on. I hope God gives me the strength and money to finish them.”

Scorsese has multiple films on his docket including his Jesus film, a Sinatra biopic, a Teddy Roosevelt movie, and adaptations of David Grann’s shipwreck novel “The Wager” and Marilynne Robinson’s “Home”. He’s also producing a “Gangs of New York” TV series.

Scorsese started shooting a shipwreck documentary last week.
