Box-Office: “Terrifier 3” Could Beat “Joker”

Box-Office: “Terrifier 3” Could Beat “Joker”

Warner Bros. Pictures, CineVerse
It seems one clown is set to murder another at the U.S. box-office this week, but it’s not clear which one will do the slaughter and if both will be beaten by a robot.

Warner Bros. Pictures’ costly $190 million budgeted “Joker: Folie a Deux” will have its second weekend this coming weekend and projections are for ticket sales to drop by at least 60-65% with many experts expecting a 70-75% decline from its disastrous $37.6 million debut.

If the latter, and the bad word-of-mouth could easily result in that, it could pull in revenue of just $9-11 million from Friday-Sunday.

If that holds, the third installment in the ultra-gory low-budget “Terrifier” slasher film series could have a serious chance at beating it to the top spot with that film on track for a $10-13 million launch.

In fact the film, which cost just $2 million to make, is on track to earn in its opening weekend what its predecessor did over its entire run. It’s also scoring positive reviews from critics at 82% (6.8/10) on Rotten Tomatoes, and is making headlines for people fainting, walking out or vomiting at screenings.

Also in the mix is the highly acclaimed animated film “The Wild Robot” which is aiming for a $12-13 million third weekend and has pulled in $102 million globally to date.

Also opening this weekend is the Pharrell Williams LEGO biopic “Piece by Piece” which is targeting a $5-7 million start, the wide expansion of “Saturday Night” which is aiming for a $3.5-5 million haul, and the opening of the Trump biopic “The Apprentice” which will launch with $1-3 million.
