Rihanna’s Big Natural Curls Are Instant Mood-Board Material

Rihanna is a woman of many hairstyles, and far be it from me to say which is her best. However, I can tell you right now without a shadow of a doubt which of RiRi’s styles is my biased, personal favorite: her shiny, bouncy, natural curls.

The curls in question made a rare appearance on Sunday, October 13, in Beverly Hills when Rihanna stepped out in a variation of what I assume Ted Lasso wears to work. (I’ve never seen Ted Lasso.) With her voluminous curls, the superstar wore a gray tweed Vivienne Westwood suit layered over a green and white “football” jersey, and a flashy red pair of Fenty x Puma Avanti sneakers.

The playful look harkens back to Rihanna’s very first Fenty x Puma collection, released in 2016, which riffed on Puma’s sportswear legacy but added a touch of modernity and a dash RiRi’s idiosyncratic It factor. In 2024 sport’s influence on fashion is less streetwear and track suits, and more jerseys styled with clashing aesthetics, like Rihanna’s latest. Bella Hadid, who’s largely credited as the inventor of the blokette aesthetic, has been known to pair a soccer uniform with frilly, romantic pieces, such as an eyelet skirt or kitten heels.

But back to RiRi’s hair. She stepped out sporting natural-looking curls for a separate appearance over the weekend, leading me to believe that the next PR blitz for Fenty Hair, which she launched as an extension of Fenty Beauty in June 2024, is on the horizon. That is, once she’s done doing her Fenty x Savage lingerie campaign, and with promoting the Fenty x Puma Avanti. A mogul’s work is never done.
