Qualcomm teases ‘entry-level’ Snapdragon X chip for ‘$600’ Windows laptops

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X chips have brought significantly better battery life to Windows laptops, but at a cost. Apparently, though, Qualcomm has plans for an even cheaper “entry-level” Snapdragon X chip that could be in “$600+” machines.

The Snapdragon X lineup started with the “Elite,” a high-end chip designed to compete with the likes of Apple’s M-series chips in the latest MacBooks. Laptops with the chip start in the range of $1,200 and up, with a slightly lesser “Plus” dropping prices to around $1,000 at launch.

In September, Qualcomm launched a more affordable version of the Snapdragon X Plus that debuted in some laptops, like Lenovo’s $849 IdeaPad 5x 2-in-1.

At an Investor Day presentation (via XDA), though, Qualcomm teased another “entry” Snapdragon X chip that would be used in Windows laptops in the “$600+” price range. Qualcomm says this entry-level Snapdragon X chip would lead to “expanded market accessibility” by offering these lower price points.

How this lower-end chip would differ from existing models is unclear, though Qualcomm did say it would have the same NPU as existing variants.

The timing for this launch is also unknown, though CES in January seems like an obvious candidate.
