Amidst political turmoil in South Korea, celebrities have also taken to social media to speak up about the issue.
Previously on December 3, President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law in an emergency address. However, just two hours later, the National Assembly passed a resolution demanding the revocation of martial law, prompting President Yoon Suk Yeol to issue a statement at 4:30 a.m. KST announcing its termination.
Despite the lifting of martial law, the political aftermath continues to unfold, with opposition parties intensifying efforts to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol. A vote on the impeachment motion was scheduled for December 7, but the vote ultimately fell short.
Ahead of the impeachment motion, celebrities took to social media to express their support for the motion as well as the candlelight protest—a form of peaceful protest to express political dissent—that took place at Yeouido, with many posting candlelight emojis in support.
