A feature film based on the hit Australian animated children’s series “Bluey” is set for a global theatrical release in 2027.

BBC Studios and Walt Disney Studios are backing the project which is being written and directed by series creator Joe Brumm and is a Ludo Studio production.

Voice talent from the series will be back including Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack. Series composer Joff Bush will provide the score. Richard Jeffrey will co-direct with Amber Naismith producing.

Brumm said in a statement that after working with a longer format version of the series with the third season finale “The Sign,” a “feature film feels like a natural extension of that.” The aim is for an “experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together”.

The film will hit cinemas first before being available to stream on Disney+ and on ABC iview and ABC Kids in Australia.

The news comes as the fate of “Bluey” as a series still remains unclear. All 154 episodes over three seasons of the series have been released with new ‘mini-sodes’ released as recently as earlier this month. No sign of any new episodes has been announced as yet.
