Image: Satya Nadella 2023: Year of AI (Microsoft)The big Xbox story of today has undoubtedly been Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella’s comments about “redefining what it means to be an Xbox fan”, but he also had some other interesting things to share during that same interview.
Speaking as part of the annual shareholders meeting, Nadella revealed that he feels “very, very good” about Xbox as things stand, and he’s proud of the progress the brand has made. Specifically, he brought up the excitement surrounding the recent Black Ops 6 launch, as well as the work that’s been done surrounding Activision Blizzard.
“Yeah, I mean, I’m feeling very, very good about where we are in gaming. In fact, right now, this is like the peak season for gaming, obviously with Black Ops [6], it’s just been fantastic to see the launch and the marketing around it, the buzz around it and the love for gaming.”
“Our strategy with Activision content now is in full force. We feel fantastic about the progress we’ve made. And more importantly, I think long-term, as a company, we can bring the best of AI innovation, cloud innovation, console innovation [and] PC innovation to build the best games that can be enjoyed by gamers everywhere.”
There’s already been a fair bit of discussion on social media regarding Nadella’s comments about “innovation” to build “the best games” in the future – with the CEO notably mentioning AI, cloud, console and PC as being the pillars for this.
Not everything that he’s said will necessarily prove popular — especially the “redefining” part that we referenced earlier — but it’s also clear that from Microsoft’s perspective, the Xbox brand is in a “very good” place as things stand.
