“Carry-On” Has Netflix’s Top 2024 Film Launch

Netflix
The Taron Egerton-led “Die Hard”-style Christmas action thriller “Carry-On” has debuted to not just better reviews than most Netflix films, but better numbers too.

Dubbed filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra’s best film since “The Shallows,” the feature premiered on Friday and pulled in an 84% (6.8/10) on Rotten Tomatoes with praise for its back-to-basics action and fun along with solid performances from Egerton and co-star Jason Bateman.

Now, the title has reportedly become the streamer’s biggest debut of the year, garnering 42 million views in the week of December 8th-15th – meaning it pulled in those numbers over just three days.

In terms of overall launches in their first three days, it has come eighth for the streamer and basically on par with “Leave the World Behind” (41.7M), “Extraction 2” (42.8M) and both “The Mother” and “Murder Mystery 2” (42.9M).

Coming in at a budget of $47 million, just a fraction of Netflix’s films like “Red Notice” or “Heart of Stone,” it’s the kind of launch other streamers and studios will no doubt be jealous of.

Egerton stars as a going nowhere TSA agent blackmailed by a mysterious voice over an earpiece, a ‘facilitator’ for nasty people, into letting a dangerous package through airport security. Egerton must figure out how to stop the plot while also keeping his girlfriend and the terminal passengers alive.

“Carry-On” is now available to stream on Netflix.
