Karnataka: Jog Falls shuts down for visitors until March 2025 for renovations

As per reports, district authorities in Sagara taluk, Shivamogga district, Karnataka, have announced that Jog Falls will remain closed to the public from January 1 to March 15. The temporary closure is necessitated by ongoing developmental works.

The developmental projects include the construction of a new main gate and improvements to basic amenities such as restrooms, pathways, and viewing points. The district administration and the Jog Management Authority have taken this step to ensure visitors are not inconvenienced by construction activities. Authorities have requested public cooperation during this period and assured that the works will significantly improve the infrastructure at the site, making it more accessible and comfortable for tourists.

What makes Jog Falls so special?Jog Falls, located on the Sharavathi River in Karnataka, is one of the highest plunge waterfalls in India and a popular tourist destination. Cascading from a height of 253 metres (830 feet), it is a mesmerising spectacle of nature. Come monsoon season, unlike other segmented waterfalls, Jog Falls becomes a single powerful cascade. It’s a beautiful sight to see for tourists from all over the country and the globe.

The waterfall consists of four distinct cascades, named Raja, Rani, Roarer, and Rocket. Each has its unique flow and character, contributing to the majestic beauty of Jog Falls. The mist-covered valley, lush greenery, and the thundering sound of water hitting the rocks below make it a surreal experience for visitors.

Best time to visit Jog FallsAlthough the site will be closed temporarily, Jog Falls is at its best during the monsoon months, from June to September, when the water flow is at its peak. The post-monsoon period offers a calmer yet equally enchanting view of the falls surrounded by verdant landscapes.
