Senior Pastor Kwadwo Boateng Bempah of Holy Hill Chapel, Assemblies of God, Ghana, has urged President-elect John Mahama’s incoming administration to focus on addressing the nation’s economic challenges rather than pursuing political vendettas. Speaking to his congregation on December 22, 2024, Pastor Bempah criticized the newly announced ‘Operation Recover All Loot’ (ORAL) team, warning against prioritizing the prosecution of alleged corrupt officials over the well-being of the people.
“We voted for you to bring the dollar down, not to catch people,” the pastor declared, emphasizing the dire need to stabilize the economy and reduce the dollar’s exchange rate against the cedi. “We want the economy well; that is why you said you wanted to come to power,” he added, highlighting the economic hardships many Ghanaians continue to face.
Reflecting on the reasons behind the defeat of the outgoing Akufo-Addo government, Pastor Bempah stated, “We voted them out because they wanted to make people poor. If the next government tries the same, they will not be forgiven.” He further cautioned, “Anybody whose leadership does not end up with the well-being of the people will wake up and laugh at the wrong side of their mouth.”
The ORAL team, chaired by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has been tasked with recovering state funds allegedly looted by officials in the outgoing administration. While acknowledging the importance of accountability, Pastor Bempah expressed concerns about the government’s approach, saying, “I have seen the new people also making ‘let’s catch people’ efforts. My friend, take your time,we didn’t vote for you to be catching people.”
Pastor Bempah’s remarks serve as a powerful reminder to the incoming administration to focus on fulfilling campaign promises by addressing economic issues and prioritizing the needs of the people.
