Rumour: Xbox Series S Could Have Big Impact On The Nintendo Switch 2

When it comes to third-party ports at least

The Nintendo Switch 2 has been all-but announced at this point, with leaks taking place on a near-daily basis for the console that’s set to be officially unveiled over the next couple of months. We’re only watching the news from afar here at Pure Xbox, but an interesting new rumour suggests the Xbox Series S could have a big impact on the device.

When it comes to third-party ports on the Switch 2, we’ve already seen some rumours floating around for the likes of Tekken 8 and Red Dead Redemption 2, although obviously nothing is confirmed yet. When discussing this on ResetEra, an apparent insider known as John Harker advised that companies may be leaning on the Xbox Series S versions of major games to help build new versions for the Nintendo Switch 2:

“There’s movement to try and get scaled Series S versions, don’t know how it’s tracking obviously.”

To us, this would make a lot of sense. The Nintendo Switch 2 looks set to be much more comparable to the Xbox Series S than the Series X or PS5 in terms of performance and graphical capabilities, so it could end up becoming an extremely useful resource for anyone trying to fit demanding games onto Nintendo’s hardware. This includes Microsoft, of course, which has a full lineup of first-party Xbox titles that could potentially make their way over to the Switch 2.

Again, this is just a rumour and it may not end up being as big a deal as suggested, but clearly some companies are going to lean on the lesser-powered Xbox console for assistance in situations like this. Microsoft probably didn’t factor in the Switch 2 when conceiving the Xbox Series S all those years ago, but considering the big multiplatform push that’s going on right now at the company, it could end up proving more valuable than first anticipated!
