“Suicide Squad” Game Ends With Big Retcon

Rocksteady Games’ “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” received its final content update today with the launch of Season 4 Episode 8, bringing the title to an end almost a year exactly after it launched.

The game was a famed disaster, drawing poor reviews and was a commercial failure with Rocksteady owner Warner reportedly taking a $200 million loss on the game.

The ending released today, with the climactic battle against Brainiac, offers a reveal that effectively retcons much of the events of the game via a motion comic in the final moments.

The two-minute sequence at the end of the game reveals the DC hero characters killed by the Squad were clones and now the real Superman, Batman, Green Lantern and Flash are alive and have all been freed – with the notable exception of Wonder Woman who is confirmed dead.

Superman plans to atone by freeing those still enslaved by Brainiac across the galaxy, and the squad and their friends escape Waller and flee to the Elseworlds.

The result has lead to a lot of discussion about the title again online, the poor quality of that ending, how it may have differed from what was originally planned, and comments from people hoping this means Rocksteady can get back to doing great DC single player games again like their “Batman Arkham” trilogy.

“Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” is currently available for free to PlayStation Plus members and has a new offline mode allowing players to continue playing the game by themselves without requiring an internet connection.
