The Kerala High Court has granted bail to Kerala businessman Bobby Chemmanur, who was arrested and in judicial custody following a sexual harassment complaint filed by Malayalam actress Honey Rose. The court strongly criticized body-shaming practices during its hearing of the case.
The High Court Judge remarked, “Body-shaming has no place in our society. Mocking someone for being overweight, thin, short, tall, or dark-skinned must stop. None of us are perfect. Our bodies, minds, and hearts evolve over time. Both men and women must exercise caution when commenting on others. The words used by Bobby Chemmanur carry double meanings, and anyone familiar with Malayalam can easily understand their intent.”
The court noted that the alleged offense carries a punishment of up to three years of imprisonment. However, as per Supreme Court guidelines, the accused could be granted bail with strict conditions. Bobby Chemmanur has been asked to provide a bond worth ₹50,000, cooperate fully with the investigation, appear before the investigating officer when summoned, and avoid influencing witnesses or repeating similar actions.
Bobby Chemmanur was earlier denied bail by the Ernakulam Trial Court and arrested on January 8. Subsequently, he was placed in judicial custody for 14 days. He then approached the High Court, claiming the charges against him were baseless and politically motivated. Honey Rose, who gained fame with the 2012 movie “Trivandrum Lodge,” had recently filed the harassment complaint against Bobby Chemmanur.
Bobby Chemmanur is a prominent jeweler and the head of the Chemmanur Group. He was instrumental in bringing football legend Diego Maradona to Kerala in 2012. Following the complaint, a special investigation team was formed, leading to his arrest.
