Ke Huy Quan Wants To Play A Villain

Universal Pictures
The comeback story of Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan continues, the former “The Goonies” and “Indiana Jones” star building on his Oscar-winning “Everything Everywhere All at Once” role success into several other notable gigs.

He’s had several recent gigs, from supporting roles in the second season of Loki and the Disney+ series American Born Chinese to voice roles in Kung Fu Panda 4 and the upcoming Zootopia 2.

This year, Quan will appear in Joe and Anthony Russo’s “The Electric State” and as the lead in the action film “Love Hurts” which opens February 7th.

Out promoting his first go as an action hero in the latter film, Quan tells Empire what he really wants to do next is play a villain:

“I would love to play a bad guy. Like a Bond villain. Or the kind of thing Hugh Grant does in Heretic. I want to go out of my comfort zone and just play this diabolical, really bad guy. That would be a lot of fun.”

The actor also has a history of work choreographing stunts and fights, but despite his new film, he adds that he doesn’t want to be only seen as an action star:

“I don’t want to be perceived as an action star. I hope I’m perceived as an actor who does action well. So, I’m going to take it one step at a time. The best part about being an actor is you get to play a variety of different characters. I love [Loki‘s] Ouroboros because he’s so different than [EEAAO‘s] Waymond, and Waymond is so different than [Love Hurts‘] Marvin Gable.”

Quan was also recently cast in the upcoming Lionsgate action thriller “Fairytale in New York”. In it, he plays a cab driver who pursues a gang of criminals to retrieve his children’s stolen Christmas presents.
