Rogers customers are no longer able to access some CTV and CTV2 content online.
On the Rogers subreddit, one user reported being unable to watch older episodes of Night Court that they had been watching. The user shared an image of the CTV app and the episodes of the show being locked.
In an accompanying image, the user also shared a message from CTV’s website that reads as follows:
“Regrettably, Rogers has decided to stop access to CTV and CTV2 content for Rogers customers via ctv.ca and the CTV app. You can continue to access and enjoy live CTV and CTV2 channels through your set-top-box. New episodes of many of your favourite shows, plus hundreds of titles, including CTV Movies and CTV Throwback selections, will remain available for viewing without the need for sign in or a subscription. Additionally, all specialty channels, such as CTV Comedy Channel, CTV Drama Channel, and USA Network will continue to be available to those who subscribe.”
Customers are then encouraged to contact Rogers directly for more information. In the subreddit, users questioned why this change had happened. As some pointed out, it’s likely due to some sort of licensing dispute between Rogers and CTV’s parent company, Bell.
“We continually evaluate our products and services to ensure our customers get the best entertainment experience. Occasionally, we make changes that reflect their evolving viewership trends,” a Rogers spokesperson told MobileSyrup of these change.
The representative added that Rogers Xfinity TV customers can set PVR recordings of shows on any linear TV channel through the Rogers Xfinity app on CTV, Global, and Citytv. They also noted that Canadian consumers can often access content directly through the provider’s website and app without a subscription for a certain period after airing.
