In the Chinese automotive industry, the traditional term ‘EV (electric vehicle)’ has been replaced by the new term ‘EIV (electric intelligent vehicle)’.
Pan Jian, co-chairman of CATL, proposed this view at the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland. Pan Jian explained: “‘I’ represents intelligent.”
Pan Jian believes that the rapid growth of China’s electric vehicle market is due to the perfect integration of ‘electric’ and ‘intelligent’. “Electricity makes intelligence possible, allowing consumers to enjoy new features that gasoline vehicles cannot provide.”
CATL’s public relations personnel also stated that although the term ‘EIV’ has not yet been fully popularized in China, its influence is gradually expanding.
In recent years, the Chinese electric vehicle market has experienced rapid growth, with numerous models featuring advanced technology and moderate prices continuously emerging. In order to stand out in the fierce market competition, major manufacturers are also increasing their investment in smart technology.
Analyst Zoe Zhang from the electric vehicle industry research company Rho Motion stated that as “EIV” gradually becomes an industry term, domestic Chinese car manufacturers are accelerating the launch of more advanced onboard systems and software to maintain competitiveness in the Chinese market. In the future, car manufacturers will engage in even fiercer competition to enhance user experience.
