Why You Shouldn’t Underestimate YouTubers: Insights from Kudumbasthan

The film “Kudumbasthan,” directed by Nakkalites YouTube channel’s Rajeswar Kalisamy, features stars like Manikandan, Guru Somasundaram, R. Sundararajan, and Balaji Sakthivel. The movie humorously explores the challenges faced by Manikandan as he steps into married life and takes on family responsibilities. The film has received a warm reception, and its success celebration was held on January 31. During the event, one of the film’s writers, Prasanna Balachandran, opened up about his journey in cinema and his experiences with YouTube.

Prasanna expressed gratitude to viewers, saying, “Nakkalites YouTube channel provided us with a livelihood. Thanks to the support from Tamil Nadu and Tamil audiences worldwide.” He shared that their first video had a mere budget of ₹250, which was just enough to cover fuel and tea expenses. For a year, none of the team members received salaries. Reflecting on those times, he thanked everyone who was part of their journey.

Speaking further, he mentioned the struggles to transition into cinema and addressed misconceptions about the industry. He emphasized that their cinematic training came from creating YouTube content, urging people not to differentiate between YouTube and cinema. Noting the pressure on YouTube creators to engage audiences within 10 minutes, he explained that cinema provides more freedom even if a film disappoints viewers. He concluded by encouraging recognition for YouTubers who work hard to pursue their dreams, urging people not to underestimate them.
