Is ‘Gentlewoman’ a Feminist Film Exploring Modern Womanhood?

The movie “Gentlewoman,” features Lijomol Jose from “Jai Bhim,” along with Hari Krishnan and Losliya in lead roles. Produced by Hari Bhaskaran under Komala Hari Pictures, the film marks the directorial debut of Joshua Sethuraman. Cinematography is handled by S.A. Kathavarayan, with music composed by Govind Vasantha. The dialogues and lyrics are penned by Yugabharathi.

Director Joshua Sethuraman shared, “The term ‘Gentle’ isn’t just for men; it’s for women too. Crimes against women are often physical in nature because society views women’s bodies as objects or commodities. This film delves into that subject, questioning societal myths and beliefs about women. The movie tells the story of two women.”

Hari Krishnan plays a key role in the film. Sethuraman clarified, “Although the storyline discusses women’s issues, it isn’t a feminist film. It is inspired by real events in society. Lijomol agreed to the role instantly as it was something she hadn’t done before.”

Filming has been completed, and the movie is scheduled for release in March.
