Donald Trump Faces First Articles Of Impeachment In Second Term

Donald Trump has been hit with the first threat of impeachment during his contentious second term. C-Span reports that Texas representative Al Green has taken his fight with the president to the US House on Wednesday (Feb. 5), where he declared his filing in response to Trump’s “proposal to take over Gaza.” Green described Donald Trump’s combative rhetoric regarding the Middle Eastern city as “a desperate deed” that “emanates ethnic cleansing.”

“Dr. Martin Luther King was right—injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. And injustice in Gaza is a threat to justice in the United States of America. The movement to impeach the president has begun. I rise to announce that I will bring Articles of Impeachment against the president for dastardly deeds proposed and dastardly deeds done,” Green declared in his passionate remarks. “I know that it’s time for us to lay the foundation again…On some issues, it is better to stand alone than not stand at all. On this issue, I stand alone, but I stand for justice.”

Jamie Raskin, Democrat and representative for Maryland’s 8th congressional district, has also spoken about a possible impeachment of Donald Trump. On Tuesday (Feb. 4), Raskin was asked whether he would consider impeaching the newly-elected president over “illegal executive overreach,” to which Raskins replied, “Find me two Republicans, and I’ll go to work tomorrow.”

Donald Trump was previously impeached twice during his first presidency. The first impeachment was handed to him in 2019 for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress after he attempted to get help from Ukraine to interfere in the 2020 election, and the second arrived in 2021 for inciting the Jan. 6 Capitol Riot.

Trump was acquitted in both instances.

Wow. Jamie Raskin discusses a possible impeachment of Donald Trump for illegal executive overreach.

“Find me two Republicans and I’ll go to work tomorrow.”
