“Alice” Star Linda Lavin Has Died

Tony winner, renowned stage actress and veteran sitcom actress Linda Lavin has died. She was 87.

A representative for Lavin confirmed to Variety that she died unexpectedly on Sunday due to complications from lung cancer that had been recently discovered.

She remained active in TV and on stage up until her passing and was seen earlier this mont attending the premiere of Netflix’s dark comedy series “No Good Deed”.

Lavin is best known for her Emmy nominated decade-long stint on “Alice,” the CBS comedy series adapted from Martin Scorsese’s 1974 film “Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore”. Lavin played a widow who starts over in Arizona working at a diner.

She appeared in films like “The Intern,” “The Muppets Take Manhattan,” “See You in the Morning,” “The Back-Up Plan,” “Wanderlust” and “Being the Ricardos,” along with shows like “Elsbeth,” “Bones,” “Mom,” “Madam Secretary,” “Santa Clarita Diet,” “Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” “The Good Wife,” “The Sopranos” and “The OC”.

Lavin was in the midst of filming the first season of Ryan Murphy’s Hulu sitcom “Mid-Century Modern” alongside Matt Bomer and Nathan Lane. How that series will handle her passing is unclear at this time.

She was inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame in 2011 and is survived by her third husband Bakunas.
