Amelia Carter NYC – All About 29-year-old Woman Burned on NY Subway

An NYC woman who was burned to death on the subway has been identified by social media sleuths as one Amelia Carter, 29.

Carter, who has yet to be officially identified by authorities, was on the subway when she was approached by a man later identified as a Guatemalan illegal immigrant.

He set her clothes on fire with a lighter and then sat and watched her burn to death.

Police eventually arrived on the scene and put out the blaze but the victim had already died.

The incident, which happened about 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 22 on the F train at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue station, has seen a slow response from authorities in identifying the victim. Late Monday, December 23rd, posts started going viral on social media identifying the victim.

One such post, which contained a photo of Amelia Carter and a memorial/obituary flyer of hers, read: “29-year-old Amelia Carter suffered fatal injuries after being set on fire while riding a NYC subway on Sunday. The poor girl was asleep. The perpetrator, Sabastain Zapeta, a Guatemalan national who had been deported in 2018 returned to the US. He allegedly used a lighter to ignite her clothing. He reportedly sat on a bench, watching her burn and even fanned the flames. My God,”

Subsequent posts shared by others provided more identifying information about Ms Carter, although their veracity cannot be substantiated. One claimed she was a PhD student at Penn. The post read: “This is Amelia Carter. She was a twenty-nine-year-old Ph.D. student at Penn… Amelia had her entire life taken from her by a “got away.” Zapeta must be made to pay for his crime, but we need to repatriate every other illegal in the USA,”

Other posts added more unconfirmed information about Amelia. She allegedly worked on the 2016 Bernie for President campaign as an intern but later veered right in her politics, participating in protests following the killing of UGA student Laken Riley by an illegal immigrant. Other posts claimed she was a nurse at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City but originally hailed from Orlando Fla. None of this info has been confirmed by law enforcement.

Sabastian Zapeta

An illegal immigrant from Guatemala, Sabastian Zapeta was arrested by NYPD for burning a woman to death on the subway who was later identified as Amelia Carter.

According to the NYPost, Zapeta, 33, came to the US in 2018 from Guatemala. He was detained by border patrol agents in Arizona in June of that year and deported. It’s unclear how or when he regained entry into the States.

He received a transit summons in May 2023, but his criminal record in New York City was largely clean otherwise, the tabloid reported. He was living at a shelter on Randall’s Island at the time of his heinous crime.

Zapeta, who cleverly remained on-scene following the crime and then escaped from the bewildered cops, was later arrested after a photo of him was obtained by law enforcement and released to the public.

A trio of high schoolers reportedly spotted him at the Jay and York Street station on the F line and called in the tip, leading to his arrest.
