Oscar nominee Andrew Garfield is reportedly in active negotiations for the lead role in the peasant revolt film “The Rage”.
Famed filmmaker Paul Greengrass (“The Bourne Supremacy,” “United 93”) is slated to direct the project which Focus Features is working out a domestic deal for – one in the $11 million range.
The story unfolds during the Peasants’ Revolt, a massive insurrection across England in 1381 due to socio-economic and political tensions along with high taxation.
Should his deal close, Garfield would play a farmer who becomes the leader of the revolt. Garfield would replace the previously linked Matthew McConaughey on the project.
His character is rumored to be based on the legendary Wat Tyler, who led the uprising before being killed by King Richard’s forces. The actor will next be seen opposite Julia Roberts in Luca Guadagnino’s “After the Hunt”.
Greengrass is writing the film and producing alongside Greg Goodman, Joanna Kaye and Jason Blum.
