Apple discounts refurbished M2 MacBook Air by nearly $300

Only the 8GB RAM versions are on sale, but it’s rare to see a sub-$1,000 MacBook

Apple Canada has some refurbished MacBook Air models on sale right now, meaning you could potentially get a MacBook Air for less than $1,000.

Apple’s website for refurbished Macs lists the 13-inch M2 MacBook Air with 8GB of RAM as on sale with a $290 discount from the regular $1,169 refurbished price. That brings the cost down to $879, an absolute steal for what’s still a really solid laptop.

To put that in perspective, The M2 MacBook Air started at $1,299 for the 8GB RAM variant before Apple bumped the laptops up to a 16GB RAM starting point at the same price in October 2024. That’s a $420 difference compared to a brand-new M2 MacBook Air. It’s also a lot cheaper than the M4 Air’s $1,399 starting price.

And sure, it only has 8GB of RAM, but for most people, that will be just fine. These refurbished M2 Air models are ideal for students or people doing light office work or content creation, though they will start to fall behind in more intense productivity work like video editing.

However, it’s worth noting that Apple no longer sells the M2 or M3 MacBook Air models. After the recent release of the M4 model, which came with a surprising price cut, Apple stopped selling the M2 and M3 models in Canada. Canadians can still get their hands on the older MacBook Airs through Apple’s refurbished site or other retailers like Amazon (while supplies last).

Apple has the Silver and Midnight refurbished M2 Air colourways on sale. If you’re looking for a deal on a MacBook with more RAM, Apple also has the M2 Air with 16GB of RAM available for $1,009. Beyond that, prices start to climb to $1,200 and higher as you get into higher-tier Airs with better GPUs and other upgrades.
