Bell slapping some mobile customers with $6 per line price hike

Some Bell customers took to social media to report that their wireless services are going up in price starting in July.

According to posts on Reddit, Bell mobile customers are getting a price increase of $6 per line. One user reported that they got an additional $3 increase for their Apple Watch LTE plan. However, it’s unclear how widespread the increases are.

“Due to rising operating costs and market shifts, the monthly rate of Bell Mobility services will be increasing starting in July 2025. All impacted customers were notified in advance,” Bell said to MobileSyrup in a statement about the price hikes.

“We value our customers, and we are committed to providing them with flexible options. Our plans, bundles and promotions range from premium offerings to affordable packages designed to meet the needs of different customers.”

Further, Bell told MobileSyrup that it has invested “almost $23 billion to deliver Canada’s best and fastest networks at competitive prices” since 2020. Bell says during the same time, “the cost of cellular services has dropped by 50% while the cost for all items has risen by nearly 20%,” citing Statistics Canada. But as we’ve seen repeatedly, claims of falling wireless prices don’t always add up, so much so that Statistics Canada actually changed how it tracks wireless pricing to more accurately reflect what Canadians pay.

A long line of price hikes
This increase is only the most recent in a long string of Bell price hikes. In May, Bell increased prices for some internet subscribers by up to $6. The company also raised prices for some internet and TV customers by $4 and $2.50, respectively, back in January.

Last year, Bell hiked prices by $6 for wireless customers in February and internet prices by $5 just in time for Canada Day. (I got hit with several of the internet price hikes, eventually pushing me to leave Bell earlier this month).

Bell’s repeat price hikes are frustrating in their own right, but coupled with the company’s recent layoffs and ongoing campaign against initiatives that would lower the cost of home internet, make the rising costs infuriating.

Customers on Reddit asked what recourse they have to deal with the price hikes. The overwhelming answer was to switch providers. Frankly, I agree. In my experience, calling providers over a price hike like this is a waste of time — you’ll spend hours on the phone and fight and argue with customer service reps and get next to nothing for it. Meanwhile, you can switch providers in about 20 minutes and almost certainly get a better deal for a fraction of the effort. Plus, switching sends a very clear message to your current provider, and potentially opens you up to getting win-back offers down the line.

So if you’re facing down a price hike from Bell — or any other provider — my advice is to start shopping. There are tons of excellent bring-your-own-phone (BYOP) deals out there from a variety of wireless providers. Find the best deal for you and take it. You’ll be able to port your phone number over, and when you do that, it automatically cancels your existing account, so you won’t even need to call your current provider to cancel.
